PHiLARC - The No. 1 Choice of Welders

PA-7018-1

AWS Specification: AWS A5.1 E7018-1

JIS Specification : NONE

Other Specification: DIN EN ISO 2560-A: E 42 5 B 32 H5

I. APPLICATIONS:

Shielded metal arc welding for LPG tankers, LPG storage tanks, equipment for low-temperature service,

ships and offshore structures to be used at low-temperature districts .

II. DESCRIPTIONS :

An iron powder extra-low hydrogen type covered electrode to be used in all-position welding of 400-490N/mm2 high tensile steel for low-temperature application. It provides excellent notch toughness at low-temperatures and good usability .

III. NOTES ON USAGE :

  • Welding heat input must be controlled in order to get required impact value, since notch toughness tends to be decreased by excessive heat input.

  • Preheating at 50-100°C is needed depending upon the kind of steel and its thickness.

  • Dry the electrodes at 350-400°C for about one hour before use.

  • Take the backstep method or strike the arc previously on a small steel piece to prevent blowholes at the arc striking in a groove.

The information contained or otherwise referenced herein is presented only as “typical” without guarantee or warranty, and Industrial Welding Corporation expressly disclaims any liability incurred from any reliance thereon. Typical data and Test results for mechanical properties, deposit or electrode composition and other properties were obtained from a weld produced and tested according to prescribed standards, and should not be assumed to be the expected results in a particular application or weldment. Actual results will vary depending on many factors, including, but not limited to, weld procedure, plate chemistry and temperature, weldment design and fabrication methods. Users are cautioned to confirm by qualification testing, or other appropriate means, the suitability of any welding consumable and procedure before use in the intended application.
